CHARLESTON – Ronald Lee Brown, 76, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 at home, surrounded by family.

 

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, with his Memorial service following at 3:00 p.m.   Military rites will be performed by the Air Force Reserves Military Honors Team and Paul McVey V.F.W. Post #1592 and Charleston American Legion Post #93.  Masonic Rites will be conducted by Charleston Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M.  Memorials may be made to: The Coles County Fair.

 

Ron was born May 2, 1947 at Charleston, son of Joanna Mae (Baumgartner) and Clinton Laverl Brown.  He married Rosalie Ann Spence, October 6, 1973 at Charleston; she survives.  Also surviving are their children, Amanda Rose Smith of Charleston and Dr. Clinton Lee Brown (Todd Gambill) of Raceland, KY, sister, Kathy Light of Charleston, and grandchildren, Lance Smith of Charleston, and Wyatt and Adelyn Gambill of Raceland, KY.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Ron was a member of the Bushton Christian Church, Charleston Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M., the Valley of Danville Scottish Rite, and the Coles County Fair Board for many years.  He was also a volunteer for the Lincoln Fire Protection District for more than twenty years, and the Coles County ESDA for more than fifteen years.  Ron had worked at Moore Business Forms, farmed with his father-in-law, Bill Spence, and Steve Swango, and retired from J.J. Collins Printing Company.
