Caroline Christian
CHARLESTON – Caroline A. Christian, 101, of Charleston, passed away July 10, 2018.
Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church 2206 Fourth Street, Charleston, with Reverend Tom Corum officiating. Memorials: The Charleston Community Band, Wesley United Methodist Church, or donor’s choice. If you are able to attend, please consider wearing green. (Her favorite color!)
Caroline was born December 30, 1916 and lived in Boston, MA, then Waterford, CT, before moving to Charleston in October 1982. She married Arthur E. Christian, June 8, 1945; he preceded her in death in January of 1978. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and Donald Bardsley; five grandchildren, Adina-Renee (Greg) Stewart, Cyrus (Natasha) Bardsley,Ezra (Dru Anne) Bardsley, Gideon Bardsley, and YvonneMarie Bardsley; seven great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Ashley, Aubrey, Joslyn, and Hadley Stewart and Andilyn and Rosleigh Bardsley. One nephew, one niece and many extended family members also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister.
Caroline was an accountant for over twenty years. She was active in Girl Scouts and church before her retirement in 1982. Caroline graduated from EIU with a B.O.G degree, then a Master’s in English Literature in 1993. She belonged to the Weaver’s Guild, volunteered at Tarble Arts Center, and was a pen pal through RSVP. Caroline listened to Second Graders read for many years at Carl Sandburg. She was active in walking and METS at EIU for more than 30 years. Caroline was faithful in worship and volunteering at her church.
