Clinton Brown
CHARLESTON – Clinton Laverl Brown, 97, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Brookstone Estates of Charleston.
His funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Ferris officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer’s Research.
Clinton was born October 4, 1921 in Cumberland County, Illinois, son of Lewis and Cecil (Madlem) Brown. He married Joanna Mae Baumgartner, October 26, 1946 at Robinson, Illinois; she survives. Also surviving are their children: Ron (Rosie) Brown and Kathy Light, both of Charleston; grandchildren: Mandie Smith, Brandi (Dustin) Furry, and Clinton Lee Brown; great-grandchildren: Lance Smith, Mikayla Lane, and Sidney Furry; and one brother: John (Lillian)Brown of Charleston; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Harvey Brown; and one sister: Mary Louise Anderson.
Clinton retired from the City of Charleston as Superintendent of the Street Department. He enjoyed gardening, tractor pulls, and horse races, but he treasured time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Clinton was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
