CHARLESTON – Donald Eugene Jenkins, 93, of Charleston, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at Casey Health Care Center.

 

His graveside funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston, with Whit Lauwers officiating.  Military rites will be performed by Paul McVey V.F.W. and Charleston American Legion.  Masonic rites will be performed by Charleston Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #35.  Arrangements: Harper-Swickard.

 

Don was born December 8, 1925 in Campbell, Illinois, son of Edward M. and Pearl (Legg) Jenkins.  He married Linda Jean Williams, September 4, 1948 at Corinth, MS; she preceded him in death, September 4, 1988; he later married Ruth M. (Jones) Reinhardt in 1989; she passed away September 16, 2010.  He is survived by two sons: Mark Jenkins and wife Patty of Casey and Scott Jenkins and wife Laura of Fishers, IN.  Two grandchildren: Brooklyn Jenkins of Fishers, IN and Adam Jenkins and wife Ramie of Charleston; seven great-grandchildren: Logan, Samuel, Wesley, Bryan, Klover, Karolina, and Benzley also survive.  He was also preceded in death by one brother: Harold “Fuzz” Jenkins and one sister: Francis Ferguson.

 

Don was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  He was retired as a groundskeeper from EIU and later retired as Captain from the Coles County Sheriff’s Department.  Don was a member of North Side Baptist Church and Charleston Masonic Lodge #35 since 1953.
