CHARLESTON – Evelyn L. McArthur, 86, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Arbor Rose, with her daughters by her side.

 

The funeral service honoring her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.  Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice.

 

Evelyn was born April 22, 1933 in Mattoon, daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Day) Shobe.  After the death of her parents, Evelyn was raised by her uncle and aunt, Orval and Lorine Day.  She married George Alexander “Andy” McArthur, July 22, 1951 in Casey, IL.  He preceded her in death, March 13, 2013.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph A. McArthur.  She is survived by one son, Terry A. McArthur of Scarborough, ME, three daughters, Candace K. (Jerry) Robinett of Jefferson City, MO, Angela J. McArthur of Memphis, TN, and Lucinda B. McArthur of Peoria, IL; and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie (McArthur) Horner of Mattoon.  Nine grandchildren, Courtney (Lee) Ferrante, Caitlin McArthur, Kelsey (Faith) McBoyd, Jonathan (Allison) McArthur, Rachel (Seth) Hubbard, John Robinett, Joshua Robinett, Jacob Robinett, and Joel Robinett; and six great-grandchildren, Leo Ferrante, Olivia Ferrante, Katherine McArthur, Natalie McArthur, Sloane Hubbard, and Quinn Hubbard, also survive.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenny Shobe, and her sisters, Ruth Heaney, Margaret Osborn, Helen Elder, and Norma Shobe.

 

Evelyn was a member of the Charleston Women’s Club, Republican Women of Illinois, and had been an election judge for several decades. She was a very active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than fifty years.  Evelyn worked alongside Andy at all of their family businesses and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.  Mostly, she loved being a Mom and Grandma.
