Albert Duane Kearney

CHARLESTON – Albert Duane Kearney, 81, of Charleston, died peacefully at home Monday, January 15, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his wife and children.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Central Christian Church, 915 W. Lincoln, Charleston.  The funeral service honoring his life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church, with Elder George Moody officiating.  Burial will follow in Huckaba Cemetery, rural Charleston.  Memorials in his honor may be made to SBL Hospice or Central Christian Church.  Arrangements:  Caudill-King.

Duane was born August 31, 1942 in Shelbyville, Illinois, son of Keith and Opal (Flemming) Kearney.  He married Judith Lynn Bell, July 9, 1967 at Farmington Faith Builders Church, rural Lerna; she survives.  Also surviving are their children, Kendra (Matt) Swiger of Tolono, Jill (Eric) Steiner of Thawville, and Brian (Cindy) Kearney of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Kyla Reasor, Kiersten Reasor, Emma Steiner, Noah Steiner, Alison Kearney, Sara Kearney, and Megan Kearney; two sisters, Darlene McGinnis and Judy Gray (Greg Durflinger); as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Hayden Paul Steiner, three brothers, Roger Dale Kearney, Darrell Kearney, and Danny Kearney; and one sister, Rita Kearney.

Duane retired from the University of Illinois, where he had worked in Accounts Payable.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.  Duane was a dedicated member of Central Christian Church, where he had served as Treasurer for many years.  He was an avid bowler and soft ball player, participating up into his 70's, and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.  Duane was inducted into the Charleston Bowling League Hall of Fame.  He enjoyed going to the gym, and loved working in the yard, gardening, and mushroom hunting.  Duane also completed the Daily Jumble and the L.A. Times Crossword Puzzle daily.
