Barbara Nordin

CHARLESTON – Barbara Jean Nordin, 90, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025 at her home, surrounded by family.

Her funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 902 Cleveland Avenue, Charleston, with Pastor Samuel Smith officiating. Private burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Charleston. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. (NOON) Saturday at the church. Memorials in her honor may be directed to: Immanuel Lutheran Church. Arrangements: Harper-Swickard Funeral Home.

Barbara was born March 23, 1935 in Dixon, Illinois, daughter of Maurice and Welma (Jacobs) Mundy. Barbara married Harold D. “Hal” Nordin on July 15, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sycamore, Illinois. Brian was born on May 20, 1963 and Kathi was born on October 25, 1965. Hal preceded her into Heaven, February 14, 2023. She is survived by their son, Brian Nordin and his wife Doris Nordin; their daughter, Kathi Nordin-Wolff, two grandsons, Josh Wolff and Ethan Wolff and his wife Hannah Wolff, and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gregory Mundy and Kenneth Mundy, and one sister, Shirley Hodge.

In her younger years, she had been a flight attendant for United Airlines. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and fantastic mother-in-law. She was an Area Sales Manager for Avon for many years, supervising up to 275 agents. Barbara was very community oriented, serving as an election judge for more than 30 years, volunteering for the Charleston Civic Association and Coalition for People in Need, and had been a Welcome Wagon Lady. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Charleston, where she also participated in the Choir, Lutheran Ladies Aid, and the Lutheran Women Missionary League. Barbara was a member of the P.E.O. and the Coles County Democratic Party.
