Dorothy Bartley

CHARLESTON – Dorothy J. Bartley, 88, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home.  Her funeral will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Billy Ray Ulrey officiating.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Westfield.  Memorials in her honor may be made to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.

Dorothy was born January 31, 1935 at Casey, Illinois, daughter of Kenneth and Alice (Perisho) Stephen.  She married Bobby L. Bartley, August 19, 1954 in Casey, Illinois; he survives.  Also surviving are three children, Judy Justice (Robin) of Ashmore, Joan Willenborg (Ed) of Montrose, and John Bartley of Charleston; grandchildren, Trevor Justice (McKenzie) of Westfield and Sydney Lowry (Dustin) of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Justice; sister-in-law, Sharon Stephen of Casey; as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert Stephen (wife Yoshiko Stephen) and Warren Stephen, and two infant children, one boy Stephen and one daughter.

Dorothy graduated in 1953 from Casey High School.  Her working career included Casey National Bank, the Phone Company, and as a EIU Security Phone Operator for the Campus Police.  She and Bob co-owned Bartley Garage and owned several rental properties together.

Dorothy and Bob loved to go antiquing together, and spending time with family, especially at Christmas, was very important to her.  She enjoyed following her children's and grandchildren's activities.
