Jerry Garrett

CHARLESTON – Gerald E. "Jerry" Garrett, Jr., 72, of Charleston, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025 at home, with family at his side.

Jerry was born February 12, 1953 in Decatur, Illinois, son of Elizabeth (Brown) and Gerald E. Garrett, Sr.  He married Mary Angelette Pearcy, April 27, 1974 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston.  She preceded him into Heaven, December 3, 2018.  He married Holly (Brooks) McArthur, June 23, 2021 at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; she survives.  Also surviving are his mother of Argenta, daughters, Gwen Hueneman of Lake In The Hills, IL and Stephanie (Joseph) Poole of Mahomet; grandchildren, Andrew Poole and Emily Poole of Mahomet; several step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Terry (Terri) Garrett of Argenta; sisters, Lottie (Kevin) Metsker and Janean (Brian) Florey, both of Argenta; as well as numerous in-laws on both sides of the family.  He was  preceded in death by his father.

A joint graveside Memorial Service for Jerry and Mary will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon, with Father John Titus and Whit Lauwers officiating. His family will host a celebration of his life that same evening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Charleston Moose Lodge, 615 7th Street, Charleston.  IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, please direct memorials in his honor to: The American Cancer Society – HOPE LODGE – ST. LOUIS, 4207 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.  Arrangements: Harper-Swickard.

Jerry had a wide range of interests, including hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, coin collecting, and NASCAR.  He was a member of Home Church.  Jerry retired from Fuyao Glass at Mt. Zion.  He had also worked many years at Arkwright in Charleston, where he had been a logistics supervisor.  He knew everybody in town, and was a wonderful friend and neighbor.  Jerry treasured the time he was able to spend with his family.
