James E. Bowling

MATTOON – James Edward Bowling, 83, of Mattoon, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025 at his home.

His memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, 720 Monroe Avenue, Charleston.

James was born March 4, 1942 in Coles County, Illinois, son of Lloyd and Alvera (Beard) Bowling.  He is survived by one son, Brian Bowling of Charleston, and one brother, Gene Bowling of Charleston.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Dwayne Bowling.

James retired from Consolidated Communications after thirty-five years of service.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and held memberships in the Mattoon American Legion, Mattoon V.F.W. Post, and Mattoon Eagles Lodge.  James enjoyed woodworking and auto racing.
