James Darimont

CHARLESTON – James Peter Darimont, 93, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

James was born January 1, 1933, in Aurora, Illinois, son of Frederick and Theresa (Lucius) Darimont. He married Violet Huwe in 1972. She passed away May 21, 2003. He is survived by a son, Steve Darimont and wife Lynn of Charleston; two step-sons, Lawrence Shaver and wife Michelle of Boston, MA, and Brian Shaver and wife Gina of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren, Stephanie Darimont and significant other Jayson Smith of Nolansville, TN, Chris Darimont and wife Erica of Charleston, and Andrea Engelsdorfer and husband Matt of Brentwood, TN; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Darimont, Cade Darimont, Helen Engelsdorfer, Louise Engelsdorfer, Hank Engelsdorfer, and Madison Smith; and one sister, Mary Tindal and husband John of Inglis, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred Darimont, and one sister, Julie Kearns.

James was graduated from Marmion Military Academy in 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951-1953 as a Communications Specialist. He retired from Barber-Greene/Caterpillar Equipment as an Electronic/Hydraulics Engineer. James was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. In his youth, he and his brother built the family’s first color television. James enjoyed Model Trains, crossword puzzles, sudoku, brain teasers and video games. In 2008 he moved to Charleston to be near Steve and his family. He especially liked working on projects with his son Steve.
