James Lauher

KANSAS – James Franklin Lauher, 80, of Kansas, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, with his loving family at his side.

His Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Kansas Christian Church, with Bret Hammond officiating.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.  Memorials in his honor may be made to the Kansas Christian Church.

Jim was born February 3, 1943 in Edgar County, Illinois, son of Zeno F. and Mary Ellen (Arterburn) Lauher.  He married Marianne Swanstrom, July 21, 1963 at Morton, Illinois; she survives.  Also surviving are their children, Michael (Denise) Lauher of Savoy, IL, Becky Lauher of Kansas, Kathy Brown of Tolono, IL, Scott (Jenny) Lauher of Chatham, IL, and Liz (Brad) Roberts of Mound, MN.  One sister, Marilyn Coartney of Ashmore, sisters-in-law, Sarah (Ron) Dawdy, Lynn Swanstrom Meyer; brother-in-law, John David Swanstrom; grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Miller, Alex (Sierra) Lauher, Shaun (Cami) Fulton, Josh (Lauren) Fulton, Zach (Evie) Fulton, William Hamlin, Owen Hamlin, Zach (Emily) Brown, Nick Brown, Morgan (Mitch) Lauher, Jake Lauher, Sydney (Aidan) Paulauskis-Lauher, Landree Lauher, Andrew (Tabi) Roberts, Rachel Roberts, and Nathan Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Madison Miller, Gregory Miller, Eddie Fulton, and Logan Fulton; his He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Ralph Hamlin, one brother, Charles Lauher, two sisters, Deanna (Russell) Fleishman, and Linda (Bert) Coffey, and two brothers-in-law, Larry Coartney and John Meyer.

Jim was an active member of the Kansas Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and Trustee.  He had farmed and raised hogs with his father while raising his young family, and later worked at Moore Business Forms and as a Carpenter.  In retirement, he helped Jim Webb on his farm.  Jim also had served as a member and Chief of the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Kansas Fire Department, had been a member of the Kansas Lions Club, and a member of the Board of Education for the Kansas School District.  He had also been Kansas Township Road Commissioner for many years.

Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.  He enjoyed following his children's and grandchildren's sports activities.  Jim enjoyed his monthly supper club, he begrudgingly accompanied Marianne on her trips (he always had a great time), and had a great sense of humor.
