Joe Abston

CHARLESTON - Joe Abston, 61, of Charleston, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Salisbury Church, 2350 Madison, Charleston, followed by a short tribute at 7:00 p.m., with Scott Sims officiating.  Casual attire would be appreciated.  Memorials in his honor may be given to Gift of Hope.

Joe was born March 15, 1957 at Charleston, son of Arthur Roland and Patsy Mae (Wilson) Abston.  He married Cathy Biggs, February 18, 1983 at the Coles County Courthouse; she survives.  They are parents to April of Charleston, Sunshine (Taylor) of Quincy, IL, Todd, Shantha (Sean) of Charleston, Janie of Lincoln, and Travis of Charleston.  Grandchildren: Kelsey, Haley, Dalton, Kylie, Carly, Noah, Ashton, Avory, Sloane, Tristan, and Grayson.  One sister: Lisa McPherson of Bloomington; and his motorcycles brothers: Jack, Larry, Duane, Reedy, and Dave.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Todd.

Joe was a member of Charleston Bible Church and in later years had attended Salisbury Church.  He had worked at Lake Land College as a Custodian, FOREVER!  Joe loved to go fishing, tinkering in the garage, and spending time riding, especially with his motorcycle brothers.  But the focus of his life was his family.  His kids and grandkids were precious to him, and spending time with them was always the highlight of his day.
