John Honn

CHARLESTON - John H. Honn, 76, of Charleston, IL passed away Thursday April 23, 2020 at SBLHC.

John was born on December 18, 1943 at Paris, IL.  He was the son of Arthur and Loma (Gilbert) Honn.  He is survived by his daughters, Kara (Toba) Honn Zaritsky of Denver, CO and Kimberly (Erik) Shambo of Charleston, IL; and grandchildren Hannah Zaritsky, and Brayden and Madison Shambo.  One sister, Karen Bolin of Oak Grove, MO also survives.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Honn and grandson Jacob Shambo.

John attended the Eastern Lab School and graduated from Charleston High School in 1962.  He was a farmer and owned the Horn & Shafer Livestock Yards in Westfield for many years.  He enjoyed a good session of karaoke, being around horses and was often found driving the starting gates for various county fairs in Illinois and Indiana.  John was a proud Army veteran and member of the Ashmore Masonic Lodge #390.

The family is planning a private burial at Mound Cemetery with a celebration of life at a later date.  Memorials in his name can be made to SBLHC Cancer Center in lieu of flowers.
