Kathy Carey

CHARLESTON – Kathy Carey, 53, of Charleston, was called to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

The funeral service celebrating Kathy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2025 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, with Reverend Janice Kahl officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials in her honor may be given to her family.

Kathy was born November 17, 1971, the daughter of Judy (Mills) Smith and James L. Ferguson.  She married Mark Carey, Jr., January 12, 2001; he survives.  She is also survived by her mother Judy (Mills) Smith, four daughters, Stefanie Massie and her husband Tyler, Megan Mills, Sidney Carey, and Hanah Mills, and a son, Tevin Story, all of Charleston; a sister, Christine Collins of Alabama; her mother-in-law, Audrey Harlan, sister-in-law, Danielle Carey, and brother-in-law, Shawn Carey, all of Georgia; three grandchildren, Dallas Mills, Kennedy Deaton, and Isiah Deaton; special cousin, Connie Hays.  She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and many cousins, all who will miss her as well.  She was preceded in death by her father, James Ferguson, step-mother, Tanya Ferguson, and step-father, Calvin Smith.

Kathy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  She loved making home made crafts for her home, and gifts for her family and friends.  She attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston.
