Lewis Mathis

CHARLESTON – Lewis Edward Mathis, 84, of Charleston, formerly of Carrollton, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Lewis was born June 27, 1937 in Chesterfield, Illinois, son of Raymond and Mary Louise (Chism) Mathis.  He married Jo Ann Goforth.  She preceded him in death in 1997.  He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Bales and husband David of Charleston, three grandchildren, Aaron, Alyssa, and Paige.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and a son, Kurt Mathis in 1997.

Lewis was a retired farmer and later worked as a School Custodian through the Green Thumb Program.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and watching Westerns.
