MATTOON – Michael D. Carver, 71, of Mattoon, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026 at home, with family at his side.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, Charleston. Burial will be private in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon.
Mike was born March 11, 1954 at Mattoon, Illinois, son of Thomas E. and Julia M. (Trader) Carver. He married Tina Darlene Shick, June 23, 1974 at Ashmore; she survives. Also surviving are their children: Renee Runner and husband Bruce of Mattoon and Michael D. Carver, Jr. and wife Christina of Charleston; siblings, Thomas Carver, Sr. and wife Fern of Charleston, Carla Leo of Florida, and Bertha Ann “Noopy” Carver of Neoga; grandchildren, Andrew Loethscher, Michaela Reed, Jessica Olsen, Megan Harl, Michael D. Carver III, Katlen Farnsworth, and Erica Petticrew; and his step-mother, Bertha Carver of Casey. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mark Rhoades, sister, Karen Silotto, and grandchildren, Nichole Carver, Alexis Petticrew, and Michael Miller.
Mike retired as Sexton of Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, continuing the legacy of his Father Tom, and now his son Mike, Jr. carries on the family tradition of excellence. Mike enjoyed starting his day at Hubbart’s Downtown Diner. He always had a project he was working on, or helping someone that needed a hand, and was very generous. Mike loved riding his motorcycle with family and friends, He loved to tease people and he usually had a smile on his face when he was up to mischief. Mike enjoyed cutting and splitting wood and he had a special place in his heart for his cats.
