LERNA – Philip C. Lawyer, 100, of rural Lerna, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
In honoring his wishes, no public service will be held. Memorials in his honor may be given to the Pleasant Prairie (Indian) Cemetery, c/o Nichole Nolte, 2470N CR 1270E, Lerna, IL 62440. Arrangements: Caudill-King.
Philip was born November 16, 1916, at the family home near Lerna, the son of Philip A. and Lurline (Coleman) Lawyer. He married Joanna Louise Senteney, July 28, 1950 at Hernando, MS; she survives. Also surviving are their children: Mary Martha Powers and husband Keith, Sr. of Springdale, Ark, Cheryl Lynn Roberts of Dora, MO, and Edwin Philip Lawyer and wife Rosemary of Lerna; grandchildren: Natalie Pilcher and husband Ron of Mattoon, Linda Ferris and husband Krag of Lerna, and Keith Powers, Jr. and wife Anda of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren: Alyssa Pilcher and Macy Ferris. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Philip was a longtime member of the Lerna United Methodist Church. He enjoyed horseback riding, playing horse shoes, watching basketball and baseball on television, and watching harness racing.
