Rex Bryant

CHARLESTON – Rex Wayne Bryant, 76, of Charleston, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025 at Willow Breeze Hospice House, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. (NOON) until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, with the funeral service honoring his life beginning at 2:00 p.m., with Todd Nolen officiating.  Entombment will follow in Mound Cemetery, Charleston.  Memorials may be given to: Willow Breeze Hospice House or Charleston Soup Stop.

Rex was born April 4, 1948 at Woodbury, Tennessee the son of Margaret (Alford) and Alonzo Bryant, Sr.  He married Susan Hollensbe; she survives.  Also surviving is one daughter, Margaret "Nikki" Bryant of Mattoon; one step-daughter, Lona Zike and partner Matt of Toledo; two step-granddaughters, Lindsey Zike and Adriana Zike, both of Toledo; three sisters, Betty Flynn of Charleston, Nellie Curry and husband Bruce of Mattoon, and Goldie Hargis and husband Steve of Arcola.  Twelve nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Auga Overstreet; and two brothers, Hubert Bryant and Alonzo Bryant, Jr.

Rex was a member of the Arcola Missionary Baptist Church.  He had retired from Blaw-Know after thirty-four years.  Rex loved to travel, and especially loved taking cruises with Susan.  They had also been to all fifty states, and he collected tee shirts from many of their destinations.  Rex treasured the time he was able to spend with his daughter, Nikki, and all his nieces and nephews were special to him.
