Stephen Buxton

CHARLESTON – Stephen C. Buxton, 79, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2019 at his home.

His graveside funeral was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at  Huckaba Cemetery, rural Charleston, with military rites by Paul McVey V.F.W. Post #1592 and Charleston American Legion Post #93.  Arrangements: Harper-Swickard.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Northside Baptist Church or Lincolnland Hospice.

Steve was born December 22, 1940 at Pierson Station, Illinois, son of Wilbur and Ethel (Riddle) Buxton.  He married Karen Sue Pryce, September 21, 1966 in Pana, Illinois; she survives.  Also surviving are their children: Jodi (Rob) McKinney of Westfield, Lisa (Randy) Craft of Wapella, IL, Stephen L. (Rhonda) Buxton of Cisne, IL, and Julie (Bob) Olson of Charleston; two brothers: Edwin Buxton and Robert D. Buxton; one sister: Joan O'Bryan; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Junior Buxton and Sam Buxton.

Stephen was a U.S. Marines veteran and a member of Northside Baptist Church.  He retired from the City of Charleston, where he had served as Superintendent of the Water and Utilities Departments.
