Thomas Carver

CHARLESTON – Thomas Lee Carver, 75, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026 at home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Roselawn Cemetery.

Tom was born August 28, 1950 at Decatur, Illinois, son of Thomas E. and Julia M. (Strong) Carver. He married Fern Smith, August 16, 1971 in Charleston; she survives. Also surviving are their children, Thomas Lee Carver II of Charleston, Nikki Ann Carver of Charleston, Windi M. Carver and Travis Thompson of Charleston, Cindi L. “Fats” Carver of Charleston, and Neeli Carver of Ashmore; his step-mother, Bertha S. Carver of Mattoon; two sisters, Carla Leo of Florida and Bertha Ann “Noopy” Carver of Neoga; grandchildren, Bradley Joe “Runt” Hildebrand, Thomas Austen “T.C.” Carver, Quinten “Rock” Carver, Cameren “Shaft” Carver, Nikolas “Biggin’” Steeples, Trey Pearcy, Tyler Michael “Fat Boy” Thompson, Chance “Squirt” Drum, Markus “Lil’ Buddy” Drum, Tommie “Pretty Girl’ Carver, Triniti Bernice “Little Bit” Thompson, Rosslyn “Peanut” Chism, and Zaiden “Bobble” Hildebrand, five great-grandchildren, and his best friend, Butch Bennett and wife Marti, also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Mark Rhoades and Mike Carver, sister, Karen Silotto, grandson, Michael Lee “Pugs” Steeples, and Rosslyn’s dad, Darren Chism.

Tom worked many years at Mid-State Foundry and retired from R.R. Donnelly. He had been a member of the former Eagles Lodge of Charleston. Tom enjoyed riding his Harley, and playing pool and poker with his friends. He enjoyed spending time at the river, especially on the Fourth of July, relaxing with family and friends, with a cold beer in his hand.
