Obituary

William Hudson

CHARLESTON – It is with extreme sadness and great relief that the family of William "Bill" Ray Hudson announce his passing on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:30 p.m. surrounded by his family at home.  He was 58 years old.  He fought a short battle with cancer.  He passed peacefully surround by family.  Although he will be terribly missed, we are thankful he is no longer in pain.

Bill was born May 24, 1966 in Charleston, Illinois, to Carlos and Patricia "Pat" (McManaway) Hudson.  Bill married Cindy Halsey on October 28, 2000 in Charleston.  At that time they blended their families as one.

Bill enjoyed family cookouts, camping, fishing, and anything outdoors.  He loved going to the Coles County Speedway where the midgets raced.  The Hudson family has a legacy there.  His uncles helped build the place, and many raced along with his Dad, who was a flagman for many years.  Most of all, he loved his little fur baby, his dog Max and his family get togethers.

Bill's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those lives he touched.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-four years, Cindy, children, Rachael Parker (Scott Draper) of Effingham, Dustin Hudson, Britney Gaines, both of Charleston, Danielle Hudson of Anderson, IN, Alan Halsey, and Michael (Mary) Halsey, both of Charleston.  Nine grandkids, sister, Brenda (Brian) Shaw of Effingham, Roger Hudson and Ronnie Hudson, both of Charleston, and Shawn (Consuelo) Hudson of Arcola; as well as several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Jesse and Vera Hudson, and Marvin and Mary McManaway, and an infant daughter, Kimberly Dawn.

The family of Bill would like to thank the nurses and staff of SBL Hospice for their care the last few months.  A special Thank You to his niece, Jenifer Wilson.  She stepped right in and helped in every way she could.  Such a blessing to have her when he needed her the most.

Visitation for Bill will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home.
