CHARLESTON – Charles Edward Gobert, Sr., 74, of Charleston, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, with his family at his side.

Charles was born January 18, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Charles F. and Mary G. (Clark) Gobert. He married Glenna Ayers, September 21, 1968 in Charleston; she survives. Also surviving are their children, Charles E. Gobert, Jr. (Kathy Black), Michelle Hudson (Rob), and Amy VanMatre (Jeff Cassiday), seven grandchildren, Cassie (Codey), Allison, Chelsea, Sage, Wade, Garhett, and Ashton; and three great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Kinsley, and Carsyn; and one sister, Barbara Elliott (Mike). He was preceded in death by his parents.

Charles was a general laborer in construction. He was a member of the former Charleston Eagles Club. Charles enjoyed time spent with his family.
