Curtis Lester, Jr.
CHARLESTON – Curtis Frank Lester, Jr., 94, of Charleston, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at SBLHC.
The funeral service honoring his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at University Baptist Church, 2831 Whitetail Drive, Charleston, with Pastor Matt Philbrick officiating. Burial with military rites by Paul McVey V.F.W. Post #1592 and Charleston American Legion Post #93 will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the church. Memorials: University Baptist Church.
Curtis was born May 16, 1927 in Bell County, KY, son of Curtis Frank Lester, Sr. and Lillian (Tuttle) Lester. He married Nadine Griffith, September 4, 1950 at Pineville, KY. She preceded him into Heaven, February 15, 2015. He is survived by their children, Joy Marlene (Rick) Easton of Windsor, James Edward (Cathy) Lester of Charleston, Lilli Regina (John) Kissell of Charleston,
Kennetha Lee (Joe) Kissell of Charleston, Curtis Frank (Allison) Lester III of Excelsior Springs, MO, Richard Mark Lester of Lerna, Dianna Gaye (Bob) Larson of Princeton, IA, Kevin Scott (K.C.) Lester of Charleston, and Mary (Abdul) Bangura of Charleston. Twenty-six grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren also survive. He was also preceded in death by one son, one grandson, two great-grandsons, and one brother.
Curtis was a U.S Army veteran, and had worked on the Manhattan Project. He was a retired mechanic and in later years, had worked in a group home. Curtis was a member of University Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, guns, crosswords, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
