OAKLAND – John Charles Metzger, 53, of Oakland, formerly of Charleston, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023 at his home.
John was born July 17, 1970 at Charleston, son of Carol (Wilson) Hawkins and Charles Metzger. He is survived by his mother, Carol (Wilson) Hawkins of Charleston, his father, Charles Metzger of Olive Branch, MS, one sister, Stacy Pierce and husband Melvin of Charleston, three nephews, Dylan Smith of Quincy, IL, Jack Pierce and Ethan Pierce, both of Charleston, one aunt, Cathy Johnson and husband Steve and family, and uncle, Robert Wilson and wife Jeanette and family, both of Charleston, aunt, Pat Cannoy and family of Mattoon, aunt, Cindy Rogers of Mattoon, aunt, Pam Dial and family of Effingham, and uncle, Mike Metzger and family of Kingsland, GA. He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents.
He loved working in the yard, landscaping, gardening, and was a fantastic uncle to his nephews. He had worked at J.J. Collins and R.R. Donnelley.
