Myron (Steve) Johnson
WESTFIELD – Myron (Steve) Johnson, 81, of Westfield, passed away peacefully, November 7, 2023 at home, surrounded by family and friends.
Steve was born October 10, 1942 at Westfield, the son of Leland and Darleene (Garver) Johnson. Steve married the love of his life, Susan Jane Lawyer, January 27, 1963 at the Westfield Baptist Church. They have been blessed with more than sixty years of marriage. He leaves behind his wife, Susie Johnson, three children, Connie (Rick) Tharp of Westfield, Glenna (George) Birch of Charleston, and Mark (Ashley) Johnson of Charleston, six grandchildren, Garrett (Daysha) Buell, Samantha Buell, Vance (Carissa) Rhoads, Nicholas Rhoads, Bryce Johnson, and Brock Johnson, eight great-grandchildren, Tessa Buell, Gemma Buell, JR Buell, Graham Buell, Graylie Buell, Gretchen Buell, Gwendolyn Buell, and Christia Rhoads. Steve also leaves behind two sisters, Sharon Davis of Charleston and Myla (Ken) Laechelt of Idaho, and two sisters-in-law, Sandy Johnson and Mickie Lawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Robert and Narine Lawyer, three brothers, Maurice, Dick and Jerry Johnson, two sisters-in-law, Sandra Johnson and Carol Johnson, and three brothers-in-law, Gene Davis, Carol Lawyer, and Don Lawyer.
Steve loved his wife, children, and family most of all. He spent close to sixty years farming at Westfield. Steve enjoyed farming, hunting at his cabin in Golconda, Illinois, fishing, family vacations, tending his livestock, wood working, and coffee at the “Westfield Café”, friends, and a good laugh. His sense of humor was known by many. Steve was a big “Jokester”. To say we will miss him is a big understatement.
His graveside Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2023 at Liberty Cemetery, rural Charleston. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to the Westfield Food Bank.
