OLNEY, IL – Shirley Jean Dunifer, 87, of Olney, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Richland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.


Shirley was born January 7, 1937 at Charleston, Illinois.  Her parents were Benjamin Franklin Dunifer and Hazel Irene (Downey) Dunifer.  Her siblings were James Dunifer, Dale Dunifer, and Rosalee (Dunifer) Swinford.  She was the last remaining sibling. 


She graduated from Nokomis High School in 1955.  She played the saxophone in the band and was a majorette in the marching band.


She married William Logan on June 19, 1955 and was united in marriage for twenty-five years.  From this union they had five children.  Pauline (Logan) Heddin, Mary (Logan) Meece, John Logan (Lee Logan), Caroline (Logan) Veach (Matt Veach), Elizabeth (Logan) Slack (fiancée Mark Stinson).


Grandchildren: Adam Farris, Amanda (Farris) Sexson (deceased), Tony Logan, Bradley Veach, Eric Veach, Betsi (Veach) Willmore and husband Brandon, and Casey Slack.  Great Grandchildren: Brandin Drake, Damian Apke, Sarah Sexson, Makayela Sexson, Mason Veach, Emily Veach, Sawyer Veach, Isabella Willmore, Blake Willmore, and Hunter Willmore.  Great-great grandchildren: Cailen Drake, Autumn Drake, Maylee Kaye Green, and Delilah Slack.  Nieces and Nephews: Robert Sears, Alice (Sears) Morell, William Sears, Margaret (Sears) Reeves, Dan Logan Jr., Harry Logan, Mike Logan, & Becky (Logan) House. 


She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro, IL where she played piano and taught a Sunday School Class.


She was employed at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. And moved to North Carolina in 1985 and retired from High Point Regional Hospital in 1986.


Shirley’s hobbies were collecting I Love Lucy memorabilia, and taking care of her plants.  She had a real green thumb.  She loved to cross stitch and made Christmas stockings for her kids and grandkids.  She had a great love for animals.  She gave many cats over her lifetime a loving home.  She had a Yorkie named Taz she dearly loved.  She always made sure the bird feeders were filled and the squirrels had corn.  She loved to listen to gospel music.  She can now make heavenly music.


The family will hold a service at a later date.
